Hydretain is a patented root zone moisture management technology that effectively reduces overall watering requirements of plants, shrubs, trees, turf, and agriculture by as much as 50% or more.
Hydretain is a liquid group of hygroscopic and humectant components that attract water like tiny “water magnets” and make available to plant roots microscopic moisture which would otherwise be lost to evaporation.
Hydretain ES Plus combines Hydretain’s root zone moisture management with an advanced, naturally derived soil surfactant designed to improve penetration into and throughout hydrophobic soils.
NEW Hydretain Granular QD puts the power of Hydretain in an easy to spread, quickly dissolvable granule that is convenient for dry spreader applications where liquid applications are impractical or labor intensive.
Hydretain Granular QD utilizes a small consistent particle size to deliver the power of the Hydretain technology on a greens grade (120 SGN) granule for professional applications.
Hydretain granular is easily applied to localized dry spots, flower beds, around shrubs, trees, and containerized plants as well as for large scale applications such as golf courses, sports fields, lawns, etc.
Application Instructions:
Hydretain ES Plus will help plants survive periods of low moisture by capturing and converting free water molecules into micro-droplets of water and making them available to the plant.
Pre-stress applications are recommended for optimized plant protection.
However, Hydretain ES Plus can be used any time during the plants life cycle.
Applications performed at the time of planting, seeding, sodding, or transplanting will also improve plant establishment.
For Best Results:
Irrigation immediately after application is recommended.
However, within 3-5 days is acceptable.
When watering in, it is imperative to irrigate thoroughly to allow Hydretain to completely penetrate and saturate the root zone.
This product will not become functional until it is properly watered in.
To prevent mower pick-up, delay mowing until product has been watered in by irrigation or rainfall.
Water thoroughly when re-watering Hydretain treated plants.
For extended effectiveness, reapply every three months or monthly at the 1/3 rate (after initial full rate application).
Additional applications may be required as the necessity for more frequent irrigation increases.
Reapply Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD if reduction in watering is not apparent within the first two weeks.
A proper fertilization program will enhance the activity of Hydretain ES Plus.
Turf:
Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD can be applied to established turf or at the time of seeding, sodding, or sprigging.
The recommended application rate of Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD is 120 pounds per acre (2.7 Lbs. per 1,000 square feet) and repeated every three months or as needed.
For greater efficiency or exceptionally difficult soils, re-apply at the 1/3 rate monthly following the initial full rate application.
Large Planters & Gardens (where plants are planted close together):
Apply Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD at a rate of 1 pound for each 100 square feet of planter bed.
Apply topically for existing beds.
For new plantings, Hydretain may be mixed into soil prior to planting or spread topically after planting.
Shrubs, Individual Plants, Potted or Containerized Plants:
Apply Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD at a rate of 1 pound for each cubic foot of planting media either topically or mixed into planting medium at time of planting.
Trees:
Apply Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD at a rate of 1 pound for each ¼ inch of trunk caliper for trees up to 2 inches in diameter and 3 pounds per caliper inch for trees over 2 inches in diameter.
Apply evenly form the base of the tree just past the drip line for existing trees.
Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD may be mixed with the planting medium for transplanting trees or applied topically after planting and watered in.
Each 40 pound bag of Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD will treat up to 14,800 square feet at the rate of 2.7 pounds per 1,000 square feet.

Just like our bodies plants need a continual source of water to grow and remain healthy. Even during times of normal rainfall and in between scheduled waterings plants can suffer from a lack of sufficient water, known as “drought stress”. Unfortunately by the time the first visible sign of drought stress appears plants’ and turf grasses' internal processes (photosynthesis, carbohydrate translocation, cell differentiation, cell elongation, & cell division) have ceased. Hydretain begins to break down in approximately 90 days. Re-application every 90 days allows Hydretain to build up in the soil profile providing even greater drought resistance with each application.
